The High Sheriff of Wiltshire’s Charity Concert hosted by Swindon Rotary took place on Saturday 1st June 2024 at Christ Church in Cricklade Street, Swindon.

Swing Birds: an all-female line-up inspired by the likes of Ivy Benson’s big band, the Swing Birds is very much a local band but has a growing reputation of providing a great mix of jazz standard numbers with blues, war-time swing as well as current hits featuring stunning vocals.

This year’s concert at Christ Church in aid of Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service was simply breathtaking! The church was just about full and the band simply wowed us from start to finish with some simply great music. It would be impossible to pick out the best numbers but I’d have to say that the two vocalists were absolutely outstanding: Susannah Bevington’s ” Feeling Good” left you weak at the knees and Kym Rose was indeed a “Natural Woman”.

Apart from any financial outcome of the concert (and that will be a welcome income for SDASS) the overall success of the night may be judged by the fact that the High Sheriff danced her way down the aisle of Christ Church at the end of the evening while the band played us out with their stirring encore!

During the interval, High Sheriff Dr Olivia Chapple was interviewd by BBC Radio Wilyshire’s Shaun Hodgetts
